From my FB page:

So today I rode for like 3 hours in a van with a Guatemalan man who 15 years ago swam across the Rio Grande to get to the USA. He worked many different jobs for 12 years - only being able to talk to his family via phone or the internet. This guy demanded to buy me mangoes, offered to let me stay in his home, and wouldn't let me go without making sure I had gotten through the dangerous parts of Guatemala City safely. If you think people like this are part of Hezbollah or are taking advantage of the USA sorry but you are an idiot.

Not too shabby south of the wall...(plus Rainier)

On the Way to Country #32!

I'm writing this post from Tapachula, Mexico, just west of the Guatemalan border, and a city that has been on the world map recently due to the "caravans" of migrants who pass through here on their way north toward the USA. It's a typical border town - most country's more charming destinations are not the communities on their borders - and I should be on my way tomorrow on a southbound bus to Guatemala City. A short stay there and I will be headed onward - to my first two new countries this year - El Salvador and Honduras!

Both are also hotspots and well known for high crime rates, but they are also home to the gorgeous rainforest, volcanoes, beaches, and of course Mayan ruins. I shall see for myself shortly just how beautiful - and dangerous - these countries are. And I'll be sure to let you know!

Here are some more pics from recent travels:

Venezuela

Between 2016 and 2018 I made 3 trips to Venezuela, spending many months there in the heat of the crisis. The Venezuelan people took me in as family, despite me coming from the supposed "enemy", the US empire.
Venezuela poses absolutely no threat to the USA or any other country, so any invasion by a US coalition would be a war of aggression - violating international law. It does sit on the world's largest oil reserve so I think it is clear why the war hawk Republicans and Democrats are salivating at the thought of another war. Venezuela was on Dick Cheney's list of countries to topple back in 2001 and now Trump is eager to realize his "vision".
Let the Venezuelan people decide the fate of their own country. Ask yourself what country was better off after US intervention? Syria? Iraq? Afganistan? Honduras? Chile? Libya? Yemen?
Hands off Venezuela!

Here I am with two of the "dangerous" Venezuelans....

Islander 36 For Sale

Well, the past two months have been quite the wild ride. After finishing the delivery of the Andrews 70 from the BVI to Florida, I spent a month in Florida doing odd jobs and a short delivery from Naples down to the Keys and then made my way back down to South America for the first time since I was 11 years old! I flew to Cartagena, Colombia and then made my way to Maracaibo, Venezuela.

That's right. Venezuela. And I made it back to tell the tale. My three weeks in the country during mass riots and nationwide unrest was actually a life changing experience. I was told that I would surely be kidnapped or murdered, and I ended up meeting the most amazing people and not wanting to leave. But that is a story for another time.

I'm back in Florida right now helping my friend sell his Islander 36 that he just sailed from San Francisco to Florida by way of the Panama Canal. The boat is exceptionally well set up for offshore sailing - with a new engine, new rig, liferaft, windvane, dinghy with outboard, solar panels, and everything you need to sail around the world.

So if you are looking for a boat to take you anywhere hit me up - captainryanlangley@gmail.com. Plus, I'll teach you to sail and deliver her from Florida to you (especially if you live in Tahiti ;) ).

Sailing in the South

Got into West Palm Beach on April 10th after a great sail up from Tortola onboard Runaway...next up the Florida Keys and then onwards!

I also want to apologize for those who have been unable to visit my website 360west.org. There has been some issues with the hosts and the website is down temporarily. I am working to either get it back up, or get a new one using the same domain up and running asap. Oh the challenges of a modern day adventurer!
